There are a few steps you will be required to take before you will be allowed to take the HazMat knowledge test.
1. Schedule a TSA background check. You should compete this step as soon as possible as it takes time to get in to their office then more time for the results to return.
2. Take and pass the theory training for hazardous materials.
You should consider scheduling the TSA background check as soon as possible, the results may take several weeks to come back.
You will receive a notification your results are in, be sure to take this with you when you visit your DMV for the knowledge testing.
You also will have to complete the theory training with at least an 80% proficiency level.
The background check and theory results must be in the data base before you will be allowed to take the HazMat knowledge test.
