Interesting Facts about the Trucking Industry

  1. According to SC Trucking, South Carolina has a shortage of about 1000 drivers currently. 
  2. The average income wages for South Carolina truck drivers exceeded $4.6 million dollars in 2018 (SC Trucking).
  3. The average annual income in South Carolina for trucking is $44,724 (SC Trucking) but can max out at $65,000 per year (Glass Door). 
  4. In 2019, those numbers have moved to maxing out (nationally) at $77,000 and the national average pay is at $57,062 for truck drivers (Truck Driver Salaries). 
  5. Data from 2018 shows that 71% of freight in America and about 6% of all full time jobs in the country are trucking related (Markets Insider).
  6. According to Planet Freight, 8 million people are employed directly/indirectly by the trucking industry. 
  7. If truckers halted their deliveries, grocery stores would run out of food in just three days (Markets Insider).
  8. The American Trucking Association projects a 25.6% increase in tonnage by 2030 (HNI).
  9. It is estimated that trucking will have a 21% growth over the next 10 years (HNI). 
  10. Over the road truck engines are designed to travel more than one million miles before being retired, where a car typically is retired at 200,000 miles (HNI). 
  11. The top transferred goods in America include clothing, food, furniture, electrical goods, and machinery (HNI). 
  12. During the Pandemic truckers continue to work. There are all types of driving jobs for qualified people.
  13. To qualify you must meet the Medical standards , hold the proper credentials, and pass drug and alcohol testing to name only a few of the qualifications truckers must meet.
