James Bailey is a native to South Carolina. James served in the US Army for 4 years as a communication specialist and light infantry solider. He has driven large vehicles in 3 different foreign countries during his time in service. He has driven for numerous companies over the road, hauling various products. In 2003, James left the road and begun instructing where he moved into the head of the department for South Carolina’s oldest and largest Truck Driver Training Program in 2008 to 2011. After his time instructing, he worked as a quality manager where he investigated all non-conformance activities, conducted product spill and contamination investigations, provided a root cause analysis, and remediation. He also assisted in developing and implementing a driver training program. In 2017, he came to Superior Bulk Logistics to manage the training and development center. Finally, in 2019; James was appointed the director of SBL Driving Academy, Inc.
James holds several certifications and licenses. He is FMCSA Supervisor Certified and holds an advanced air brake system certification. James has his EDU-213 teaching certificate and is an operation lifesaver presenter. He is a certified Smith System Instructor and is certified in documentation and investigative report writing. He has also chaired some industry associations. James served on the South Carolina Trucking Association Safety and Technology Council from 2014 to 2016. He served as 2nd chair, 1st chair, and chairman. .
James is a real go-getter and will not stop until he reaches his goals. James may be the director of the school, but you will often find him in the classroom, out on the range, and with potential students. He has a great knack at identifying peoples strengthens and building from those. James is fun to be around and brings a very positive energy to the academy. One of his favorite sayings is “if you are going to bring a problem, be sure to bring a solution as well”. Wise words, from a wise man!
Jimmy is a native of Columbia, South Carolina and has resided in the upstate for 30 years. Jimmy served 31 years in state government where he has managed a SCDMV’s statewide Commercial Driver's License Program; where he was responsible for CDL training, testing and implementation, provided oversight of truck driver training schools. During his tenure as a Fleet Safety Manager at SCDOT, he over saw 4500 employees and 2300 CMV’s statewide. Jimmy, a Class A CDL holder and a Certified National CDL Examiner's Trainer, has served 5 years on the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrator’s (AAMVA) 5 member national CDL Test Maintenance Committee. This organization sets the standards for CDL testing in the United States, which are codified by the USDOT.
Jimmy spent many years assisting the state agencies that he has worked for and his staff members within those agencies with compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. He has traveled the country using his knowledge and experience in support of AAMVA' s CDL Examiner's training initiatives, including playing a pivotal role in the development of nationally-adopted CDL audio-visual based training material. He worked for 15 years with AAMVA in CDL train the trainer, where he trained the state’s lead examiners, and FMCSA’s representatives. Jimmy is very passionate and involved in the White House's initiative (Troops to Trucks) to train desiring military personnel for commercial driver opportunities once they leave the service.
Jimmy holds over 18 certifications which include FMSCA Skills Performance Evaluations Certificate, AAA Defensive Driving Instructor, and AAMVA CDL Train the Trainer Certificate. Jimmy is very professional, proficient, and thorough. He is also very personable and has a very infectious laugh. You can often find him offering advice to others whom seek his help or helping students brainstorm on how they can make school work for them
Garry Braziel is a native to Boiling Springs, South Carolina. He has been in trucking since 1979. Mr. Braziel has hauled furniture, Pepsi, dairy, feed, gasoline, plastic pellets, spices, various chemicals, etc. He has been in dry bulk, dry box, and bulk tanker. Mr. Braziel embarked upon a new career in 2003 which was still in trucking and with Superior Bulk Logistics. Mr. Braziel went into payroll and then transferred into dispatch where he worked until early in 2019. He is now a lead instructor at SBL Truck Driving Academy, Inc. and will be able to set up future generations for success by sharing his plethora of knowledge and skills. Mr. Braziel is one of those individuals that go above and beyond.
Mr. Braziel is very well liked, a hard worker, and is very personable; often times you will find drivers who stop by to see him or former co-workers/employers/customers who will come by for a visit. Garry Braziel brings a lot from the industry to SBL Driving Academy, Inc and is a huge asset not only to our school, but to our students.
Charles is a native to Spartanburg, South Carolina but has lived in Greenville, SC for the last 34 years. Charles felt he needed to make some changes in his life in 2005 and embarked upon his commercial truck driving career after spending 15 years in another profession. He wanted to take control of his future and move into a new career that was more lucrative. Charles begun to haul products that our automobiles, machinery, and ATVs use daily: bearings, clutch parts, hubs, etc. With the company being international, Charles got to drive in other countries, such as Canada. During this time, Charles was the recipient of two different awards that highlighted him going “above and beyond” for his customers. Charles then got the opportunity to haul different items such as heavy machinery. In 2008, he begun teaching at one of South Carolina’s oldest trucking programs with James Bailey while still commercially truck driving part time. Charles instructed for 10 years and will be spending his 11th year teaching at SBL Driving Academy, Inc.
Charles brings a lot of experience, knowledge, and passion to SBL Truck Driving Academy. While instructing, you can see the excitement he has as he is leading others into a trucking career. Charles has worked in the trucking industry for the last 14 years. Charles is able to share how to navigate through current issues and barriers he experiences since he still drives commercially. Charles is a great man with a wonderful personality. He is always willing to help anyone, is a patient instructor, and has a lot of compassion for others. When Charles isn’t inside the classroom he is often volunteering in our community. Charles is a well-rounded person and SBL Truck Driving Academy is lucky to have him as part of our team.
Ashley Davis is originally from West Hamlin, WV; but has resided in the upstate for the last 20 years. Ashley has previously worked in admissions at a local college, a regional distribution coordinator for a large manufacturer, pharmaceuticals, and the psychology field. Ashley has her Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness, a Master of Science in General Psychology, and has 98 credits toward her PhD in Research Psychology. Ashley’s prospectus has already been accepted for her dissertation. Ashley has several accommodations, certificates, and awards. Among those are Employee of the Year, Employee of the Quarter, Newbie of the Quarter, a few certifications through the National Institute of Health, a certification in crisis response, and has numerous educational accommodations regarding academia.
Ashley belongs to several professional organizations which includes the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, 9 APA organizations, and several service-related organizations. Ashley has developed several training programs that have been very effective in previous jobs. Regardless of what job she has held, the primary focus has always been helping others better their lives.
Ashley bring the perspective of the younger generation to SBL Truck Driving Academy, with this perspective she brings a wealth of knowledge, and talent that she has used to launch our digital community. She is a pleasure to work with and collaborates in many of the ongoing projects at the Academy, from greeting walk-ins to discussing the Academy over the phone with persons interested in learning more about what we’re doing. Ashley has a great outgoing personality that makes people feel at home even if it’s there first time through our doors, she is smart and fun, a great asset to the Academy team.
